Brandan Botha talks about MX April 03 2017

Meet Brandan Botha, a young competitor riding at the Zone 7 MX Nationals for the first time on 8 April 2017.

NAME: Brandan Owen Botha

HOMETOWN: Born and raised in Cape Town

AGE:  Almost 17

YEARS RIDING: Going into my third year of competitive riding.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am in love with sports! I love doing all kinds of sports, like cricket and rugby, but Motocross is my first passion.

How did you get into Motocross racing?

My dad taught me how to ride, and my brother taught me about gear-shifting and riding well.

I first started with a little 50CC, and then my Dad thought “this looks like fun!”, so he got bigger bikes for my brother and I. We started riding at Zone 7 and got better and better. Back then we just rode for fun. Then my brother and I got more competitive and started racing!

Who inspires you?

My mom and dad inspire me a lot, and so does my brother. They're very good role models so I look up to them.

How do you prep before a race? What goes through your mind?

Before a race, I focus on nothing else besides Motocross and my race lines. This helps me keep cool and calm and forget about everything else.

Any memorable moments from your racing career?

Last year when I was racing against another rider, I battled to keep up with him for eight laps. Then finally at the last moment, I pulled gap on him and took that first place. It was a pretty cool moment!

What are some of the goals you've set for yourself?

For Regionals, I’d like to beat all the other guys I beat last year! For Nationals, I would like to be Top Five in the country.

Any final thoughts before you head for the MX Nationals?

It's my first year riding at the MX National circuits, but if I can keep cool and focused I'd like to think that I can reach my goal of getting into the Top Five. I’ll ride my best and not worry about the other riders.

Thanks Brandan and good luck with the upcoming Nationals! All the best to the riders competing at the 2017 Zone 7 MX Nationals.
